I'm hearing that Cowan has signed with the Sabres.
Cowan who is a LW known for dropping the gloves was under contract w/ the Canucks last season and had a cap hit of $725K
This makes sense if true as it was expected that the team would walk away from UFA forward Andrew Peters who Cowan would undoubtedly replace in the Sabres lineup.

As we said late last Friday night, Jeff Cowan has been signed by the Buffalo Sabres. It was confirmed by the team today w/ this press release: Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have signed unrestricted free agent LW Jeff Cowan.
Cowan (9/27/1976, 6’2”, 205 lbs.) is a veteran of 413 NHL games with Calgary, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Vancouver. A native of Scarborough, Ont., Cowan has collected 81 points (47+34) and 695 PIMs in eight NHL seasons. Cowan played for the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen last season, picking up 15 points (5+10) and 94 PIMs in 71 games.
