Mats Sundin, perhaps becoming the Brett Favre of the NHL---already saying he will not play for Sweden in the 2010 Olympics---apparently has not totally ruled out an NHL comeback.
The Vancouver Province reported that Sundin---the 38-year-old center who spurned the Rangers last December when they couldn't clear enough cap room and the Canucks came up with more dough---will be told by his agent J.P. Barry this week that four or five teams have inquired about a potential return, including the Canucks. A source told me that a Rangers executive (possibly Sundin's one-time agent Mike Barnett) at one point asked about his intentions as well.
Barry will see Sundin at his wedding in Sweden, the Province said.
Neither the Canucks or the Rangers have much cap space---less than $3 million each by my estimation---and my guess is that Sundin (BTW, what kind of shape is he in with camp 20 days away?) is leaning toward retirement or will wait until mid-season again. But who knows? John Tortorella has said he wants a No. 1 center with size, right?
Sundin, the long-time Leaf, played 41 games with Vancouver last season and collected 28 (9-19) points.

It's all speculation & Steve Zipay is just thinking out loud on this one. I don't see Sundin playing for the Rangers next season. I think that he's set to retire. As for the 4-5 teams that are interested - it's the player's agent trying to garner interest. Honestly, there probably are a handful of teams that would be willing to sign Sundin to a contract. I just hope the NYRs aren't one of them
