The Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League announced that they have hired former ECHL coach Charlie Huddy as an assistant coach.
The Idaho Steelheads are the ECHL affiliate of Dallas of the NHL and the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League.
The 50 year old was head coach of Huntington in the ECHL in 1997-98 leading the team to a 34-27-9 record and a berth in the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
He has been an assistant coach with Edmonton of the NHL the last nine seasons during which the Oilers were 301-252-103 and advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2006. He was an assistant coach for the New York Rangers of the NHL for two seasons before joining Edmonton.
Huddy played 17 years in the NHL and had 485 points (99g-354a) and 785 penalty minutes in 1,107 regular season games with Edmonton, Los Angeles, St. Louis and Buffalo and 85 points (19g-66a) and 135 penalty minutes in 183 playoff games.
He is one of only seven players who played for all five of Edmonton’s Stanley Cup champion teams (1984, 1985, 1987, 1988 and 1990) and he also played in the Stanley Cup Finals with the Oilers in 1983 and Los Angeles in 1993. www.echl.com/cgi-bin/mpublic.cgi?action=show_news2&cat=1&id=19366
